Cheb inlays
Cheb embossed intarsia is one of the most important artistic techniques used in Baroque furniture production. The origin of intarsia (an image created by folding and gluing veneers of different colors and structures) can be found in ancient Egypt. Cheb intarzists have enriched this technique with the third dimension by combining it with a very fine embossed carving. They created a specific embossed intarsion. X-ray computed tomography allowed the examination of the condition and the internal structure of the intarsion. The results of tomographic analysis helped not only to elucidate the manufacturing process itself, but also to improve the preservation of intarsia due to the spreading of the cracks of the motherboard.
