Project information
Project code: TH82020003
Period 5/2023-4/2026
Investor/Program framework/Project type: Technology Agency of Czech Republic / TACR M-ERA.NET - 3rd Call 2022
Investigator: Brno University of technology, Central European Institute of Technology, prof. Ing. Jozef Kaiser, Ph.D.
Project description:
The HAMAAC project aims to develop a new high-strength, healing aluminium matrix composite (hAMC) based on Al-Mg-Sc alloys to respond to the growing demand for lightweight, load-bearing parts with extended service life in the aerospace and defence industry. Parts such as heat exchangers or fasteners will be produced using laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF).
The developed composite with a healable matrix will allow:
1) reduce the frequency of part replacements by at least 50% due to its healing capability
2) enable weight savings and thus reduce CO2 emissions due to reduced fuel consumption
3) increase safety thanks to advanced quality control and inspection in the early stages of crack formation
Project HAMAAC was selected in the Joint Transnational Call 2022 of M-ERA.NET 3, which is an EU-funded network of about 49 funding organizations (Horizon 2020 grant agreement No 958174). The project is funded by the: Service public de Wallonie, Belgium; Technology Agency of the Czech Republic, Région Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France.
