New nano CT - Unique installation of devices in Europe

On October 8, the new Rigaku nano3DX CT device was installed, which is unique in high resolution. This is the first installation of this device in Europe. Due to the resolution of units of several hundreds of nanometers, the station complements and extends the existing equipment of the center.

This station will allow to meet the ever increasing requirements for tomographic analysis of the orientation of nanofibres, the initialization and course of cracks in materials and the topography of structures of different rocks. Above all, it opens space for biological applications that have been limited by the stability and resolution of an existing device. The wide possibilities of using the nanotomographic station will allow its deployment to solve research tasks both within CEITEC itself and for external domestic and international co-operating institutions.

The nanotomographic station will be particularly suited for the study of lightweight structures (smaller atomic number Z), typically all types of polymeric materials based on thermoplastics and thermoplastic elastomers and mixtures thereof, as well as composites and nanocomposites, as well as some ceramic materials bound by polymer matrix.
